Portable power source?

Anyone know a portable source of electricity (solar mini-panel ?) that would allow me use battery recharger in the jungle?

I thought there was a comment/query about this before but I can't find it.

Hi Brendan.......

This may sound like a silly question, but what jungle, exactly? I only ask as, if it's "the real thing", a solar system will not function because...........you're in a jungle!

I've been in one, and it's darker than a coal cellar at midnight most of the time.

You'll probably end up needing a hand cranked generator of some sort, a bit like the "wind up radios" and "wind up flashlights" that are being made now.

Don't have a clue where you'd get one, but Google "hand cranked/ wound " etc and see what crawls out of the woodwork.

Try Brunton

They make a bunch of solar panel mats that roll up. They are designed for hiking and adventure use. There was just a small review of them in one of the outdoor mags...actually the "green" edition of American Photo magazine.

They've been around for years but only recently are they affordable. Just roll out the mat and plug in your charger.

Chris that's a fair point. I would have to find a clearing or high platform to let the panel do its work through the day. In Amazonas most birding is done with the dawn.

Bob, your pointer to Brunton seems spot on; I can examine a range of options now; up to now I didn't have any, thank you very much.
