Short Fox, Badger and Nightjar film
 

Hi

This is a short film on foxes, badgers and nightjar i did this summer and late summer, It was shot mostly with the XLH1 with a bit of HV10 here and their

it was filmed in hd, edited in hd and then to Divx for Revver

Hi Ian,
think you got some nice sequences there, but the scenes was a bit too long and repeating for my taste. You could have shorted it to at least half without missing anything!
The badger scenes was the best. Was it a goat who was curious about the badgers?
I'm not sure about filming nesting birds, but at my place this is not recommended.

It was a sheep that wanted a closer look at the badger

Yes some clips could have been abit long but i just found the behavior of the foxes compelling

I filmed 2 nightjar nest sites and both successfully reared there young
I can see your point but if i thought that i was in anyway in danger of disturbing them i would not have done it, i just wanted to film some behavior at the nest site of these birds as not much as been shown about them

Interesting and nice footage but like Per it should be shortened, for example I feel you only need one wide establishing shot of the foxes and then go into the closer shots and cut out (dissolve out) of the closer shots before the tripod becomes wonky. On the badgers it would have been nice if you had a single shot of the sheep watching the badger antics.

Regarding the Nightjar, a lot of websites wont allow nesting birds to be shown and I personally agree but the shots of the 2 chicks and the mother are cute, there is basically no need to see the eggs and I would have removed that shot.

Congratulations on the footage, I would love to have been there to see them.

Nice work. The Badger footage is fabulous, some really great antics in there. Well done on the nightjar footage and you were very close by the looks of it. Its a great looking bird, the plumage is really special. I agree with Per and Bob on the edit, especially the foxes, it just didn't seem to go anywhere. Overall I'd raise 1 main critique though the sequences need to be more dynamic and building, think more about wides, pans, reveals,cut aways and more pacey cutting!

The nightjar is very elusive in the UK and only flies at dusk and dawn and aren't easy to film, so this was my little way of showing something of them thats rarely seen,

The location was secret only i new that she was there, and now hopefully they will be nice and warm in south africa

just watched your film ian and realy enjoyed it,you sure got some great shots,sadly next year they may well start exterminating badgers in a a lot of areas.

I think these badgers should be safe, but lets hope that they don't start to cull them
