filming decorator

did anyone see the film on bbc2 natural world [11-01]about the guy filming under water in an old clay pit,i could see from the size of the housing that he only uses a small cam.
great shots of breeding pike,, never filmed before so they thought.

Just watched this short through BBC iplayer, a very nice piece well put together program.

From the iPlayer site.
Dean Burman was a painter-decorator, but his dream was to be a wildlife cameraman. This film shares his amateur footage of pike in Leicester, which he collected over many years.

I also saw it, very good. It was all the more remarkable for the quality of the recording considering the murky conditions of an English lake. I believe he has won some competitions with with his film.

Mick

Thanks for that Ron,

I was sure I had read something about winning a wildlife film award. I'm sure others here will find that link inspiring.

Regards

Mick

I've been wanting to hear more about this since I read about in the BSAC dive mag. I've dived Stoney Cove many times and seen many Pike there, they are amazingly graceful and get pretty big!

Mick: The viz in there can be pretty good 5-10M if your the first in for the day. I've heard from others in Mid winter it can be even more.

I'd still like to see the actual short...anyone seen it ?

Ron: This is not his actual short though is it. Its a BBC feature on him making the short ! Or is there another link I've missed somewhere??

Ron Chant January 15th, 2008 09:06 AM

The 10 minute BBC film was a short doc on him and his film” with a Beeb edit and music.

"Lair of the Water Wolf" entered into the Cotswold international Film Fest last September.
He won the Jessops Photography Award.

The other films from Malta I’ve not seen.

Ron
Yeah the full short "Lair of the Water Wolf" - This is what I'd like to take a look at the full film. Do you have a link to it?

Thank you for the link, Ron. It was very interesting.

Probably the most important aspect of underwater photography and underwater filming is the clarity of the water, especially when filming under natural sunlight.

I'll be flying out to Africa next month and will hopefully be able to obtain some great underwater footage to add to the new Globetrotter World series.

Matt, the only link I found is this http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8Fd87xlxZEY
It’s only a snippet of the full video which may up to 16 minutes in the competition rules.

Hi Tony, did you manage to get your equipment sorted after the theft in Spain, the last time we talked you had some long way to go,
I’ve been trying to get Paul Boot to do some narration for my next video if I can get him away from his fishing.
Have a great time in Africa watch out for them crocs☺

Yes Ron, I decided to empty another £15,000 off my credit card and now have got back most of the gear and also some extra stuff.

The biggest problem now will be taking enough gear on the plane with baggage limits...and I'm going to find it tough even using the added hand-luggage of two others flying with me.

Paul Poote? I thought that he'd stopped doing films and wasn't fishing much since his work on the BBC film "Casting For Gold". I do know that Gereme Wade is still doing some of his "Jungle Hooks" series for Discovery.

I do all my own background narrative once each film is complete...it tends to work out cheaper than asking Sir David to do it for me...
