Nikon 80-400mm

Hi all,
I would like to get a feedback from people who are using this zoom for filmmaking.

I use the Nikon 80-200 f2.8 and I am very happy with it.

Appreciate your input!

Cheers,

Hello Ofer,
I have been using the Nikon 80-400mm lens since 2001, starting with the Canon XL1, and now with the XL H1. I find that for the price, the lens performs quite well for the type of shooting I do, which is mostly birds. I have been told by others that the sharpness falls off at the full 400mm zoom, but I haven't noticed it, or at least with my lens, but I have been backing off to about 380mm just to be on the safe side. I like the zoom adjustment, which is a ring, much better than a push pull zoom adjustment, mainly because it locks the zoom much better. The focus ring is about medium, but I would prefer a bit finer adjustment. I have had this lens all over the world, and in many bad weather conditions, including rough pelagics, and it's pretty bullet proof, within reason. Take care of it as you would your camera, and it should have a very long life span. I would be more than happy to send you a few HQ 848x464 mkv files encoded from HDV mpeg2, which are probably the best examples using this lens. These are from 4-7Mb files, so they are not very large for email attachments. You can reach me offline at donATbirdsdesjardin.com if your at all interested. I hope this helps....Don
