Help needed please.
 

I managed to get some great footage with my EX3 over the weekend, of seals, but it was blowing a howler and all my footage is shaking - which I expected. Can anyone recommend anything to rescue my footage...that you have actually used!

Hi Dave,

There's at least two options:

1. DeShaker, a VirtualDub plugin (free - Google for it)
2. Mercalli from ProDad.de (very un-free!)

In an extreme case (in my UWOL#13 entry) I rescued some ultra-wobbly footage of a Rock Pippit to make it acceptable, and used Mercalli THEN DeShaker!

Try them both. You can get a trial download of Mercalli that watermarks the footage to try before you buy. You may be surprised what DeShaker can do without paying a penny.

Is it the problem of shooting with a not good stabilized system. If it is something like shaking when you filmed handheld or when you don't have a good tripod, then you can also stabilise your footage with motion tracking in After Effects. I used it a lot and I'm very satisfied with this software and what it does to my footage.

If it's shaky because of the system I don't know some software that can help you. The advice of Mike can help you!

I was on an exposed sandbank in the North Sea and the wind was blowing very fast, enough to creeate a small sandstorm. I'll post a clip this evening os you can see waht I was up against. I had the tripod legs very low and tried to shiled it with my body but it didn't make much difference.

Mike...thanks I will give that a try. It means going back to 32bit I think but at least I'll know whether the footage will be worth keeping.
