Amicalola - Video
 

This is a video documenting the natural beauty along the Amicalola waterway which is located in North Georgia near Dawsonville, Georgia. I shot this over a two year period so as to capture the change of the seasons. Camera used was the Panasonic HPX170. Shot at 720p 60fps. Edited with Edius 5. It runs 28 minutes.

Mark, all I can say is that your video was mesmerizing. The quality of the footage, color, camera movement, sound etc. all blended together to create a truly beautiful work or art. One question, why are you shooting in 720p at 60 fps? Is it to capture slow motion? Bob

Thanks Bob. This was shot a couple of years ago on a Panasonic HPX170 which does not have 60fps in 1080p so I had to shoot in 720p 60fps to get slow-mo. Also, this project was destined for DVD which would not have shown the increased resolution.

I'm curious about your settings in those waterfall shots where you achieve the effect of smoothly blurred water. It is commonplace in still photography, but you rarely see it in video. My camera will only go to a shutter speed of 1/40th, which is not slow enough. Using lower speeds (via menu changes) only gives strobing, jerky video. Care to share your secret?

Hi Steve. I get a lot of questions concerning that. It is actually a filter in Edius 5.51 called motion blur. It blends the frames and works well as long as the motion is confined to the water. The amount of frame blending is controllable on a sliding scale. Blowing leaves on trees screws it up unless that is what is desired. I would assume that other NLE programs have a similar effect filter.

Thanks for the answer, Mark. I would assume that other NLEs do too. We are both wrong. Premiere Pro 5 does not. I suppose After Effects does, but that's a whole other ballgame.
