Filming in a race car...

I'm interested in researching what rigs and solutions people have used for filming in and on race cars.

Hope ive put this in the right forum- im new to this website.

I'm currently putting together some infomation for a race circuit in the UK, who hold a lot of track day 'experiences'. My company is putting together a pitch to film these days, so the customers can buy a DVD of their laps, combined with a jazzy title sequence, and a little documentary about the race tracks history.

I've been talking to an ex-BBC guy who specialises in broadcast minature cameras- We're thinking of using a pair of Toshiba cameras- one behind the driver looking out and a smaller lipstick one on the dash looking back at the driver.

We'd be recording both channels sperately, so we can cut between them in the edit. And we've settled on recording to hard drive units as the volume of footage needed would make tape a bit of a hassle. Plus as the company already owns 2 sony dsr-du1's. All we'd need extra is two Y/C to firewire video converters, to get the footage from the cameras to the DU1's.

Hopefully we intend to also use exterior car rigs just to get various shots for use in a title sequence.

What kind of rigs have people used, both in and out of car?

And what problems have people run into?

Any info would be much appreciated!

Regards
- Pete
