Guatemala Basilisk Lizard
 

A close up of a Basilisk Lizard from a recent trip to Guatemala. Shot with a XL H1 with a Tokina 80-200mm lens, and down converted to SD.

It's still great after converting, Don; it must be truly gobsmacking in HD.

Great footage Don, what focal end was you filming at; 80 or 200?
I will guess near 80 because the background was so visible, a very wide DOF.

These lizards are very skiddish and not very approachable, so I was near the 200mm end at about f16.

Wow f16, must have been very much light in this environment then? Did you use any external lamps for light?
In the sound you can hear some dripping water like you are near a cave or something?

This was in very bright light. In fact, I had a 2 stop ND filter on the lens. The water noise you hear is from water in a very large iron pipe that delivers water to a water wheel that powers the coffee processing and corn grinding operations.

Very nice clip. Always wondered about tokina lenses. this one seems pretty nice!! Is it an hd lens?

The Tokina is an 80-200mm f2.8 all the way through. It's also manual everything. No, it's not a HD lens, but it's one of the sharpest I own. I picked it up on Ebay a few years ago for $185, and it was in mint condition with a case. I especially like it for macro video. I like the lens, but it doesn't have the reach of a nice 400mm, so I only use it for close in work. Attached is a butterfly I shot with the Tokina. Even though its been down converted and the file very compressed, it still looks fairly good.
