Yikes, such beautiful images, taking us all into a small world of natural beauty... Great job !!!

great concept and beautiful images. my main suggestion would be to add some motion to your shots--you are a very photographic shooter, vidar, and the video advantage is motion. mixing it up a bit between static shots and adding some motion would enhance your productions, i think. you need a micro-dolly or something.

great eye, though, you always make something beautiful for us!

Vidar, that was awesome nice to view! But as Meryem also notes, I would like to see some more motion in your film. I think some slow tilts and pannings would have done this to a magic moment!

Vidar, I enjoyed watching the lights play in the ice, and think the shots are effective without panning. Next time consider adding some other colors to the light you use, green, perhaps. Also I don't know how serious Meryem et. al. are about "owning rights to the music", but some mystical Grieg would have better fit your theme than Japanese music. People are using classical music all over UWOL 7, I doubt that most of us own the performance rights, but it seems to be OK.

hi steve: an off-topic note on using classical music--mine's from a royalty-free classical music site, by the way.

the issue here is that there's not copyright on the music itself--because usually the musical copyright has expired on these pieces, but the *performance* of it may be under copyright by the artists. you need to obtain it from sellers who have given you the permission to use a particular artists' rendering of it....this is hard for me to track, because many royalty-free sites have classical recordings, usually performed by less-well-known but still highly competent classical performers, available for these reasons. so there's a bit of honor system in play here....

Wow, that was beautiful!

That's something I never would have thought of doing. You can bet that it's filed away in my brain for future reference. :)

I think the Asian music worked fine.
I lived in Japan for three years and the I think the simple, yet elegant shots played well with the music.

Not sure what your light source was but a flame would have added some really cool flickering to the ice.

I don't do a lot of camera movement in my own films so it didn't bother me that the camera was static. I can understand though how some movement would add an additional element to the film.

Hi Vidar..I liked the opening shot of the piece of ice on a lone branch.The shot with the man walking between the trees in the snow,and then fading away was well done...great little video

I love the ice shots, really nice. A few people have mention moving the camera, maybe you just have needed a slow tilt along the ice, following a water drop. or maybe just a focus shift...

Just a very nice piece and some of the best ice footage I have ever seen!!!

Now, do you Norweigens all find face images in the ground or background in your footage or is my imagination over the top??? I have seen the same thing in Per's!!!

You deliver stunning image. My favorite is the ice sequence, and the light reflections. Very well!
I think a few of these shots were held a little too long, and could have been made a bit shorter. But that's a detail. Maybe some more camera movement would have improved your film.

I like the music, but maybe some classical Norwegian (Grieg has been mentioned) would have been even better for your film?

A film like this is truly a piece of art. I don't think I have ever noticed dancing lights in icicles, captivating and well done. I'm also impressed that you made your own music, wow! You are all the way around talented.

I liked Marcus' comments about angle tilts and focus changes. Thanks Vidar, this is a very beautiful, micro contribution.

I like this Vidar! I spend a lot of time myself both photographing and filming ice. It's fascinating. I especially liked the way you used light bringing the ice to life.
