UWOL 44 - Tales of wonders and woes

As always, interaction between the players is encouraged.
What goes great, what did not go as planned, and everything in between, about the making of your UWOL 44 films.

Hope all of you have found an idea for your entries. Don't be afraid to ask if you have any questions.
Have fun!

I am throwing around the idea for a new "get together event". Hopefully for 2018, but 2019 is of course an option too. See this thread:

Feel free to comment with any thoughts and ideas you might have.

Hello there.
Tonight I was up at 3.30pm local time, but unfortunately it was cloudy.
It was a shame because Aurora forecast promised up to 5 and 6 kp.
Hope someone could see the northern lights?
Last week I was in "Rondane National Park" on a hike, together with my wife.
It was absolutely top and we traveled with our camper.
"Rondane" was the first national park in Norway, established in 1962 and has a rich animal and birdlife.
Among others, musk ox, wolverine, brown bear, lynx, arctic fox, wolf and reindeer.
I'm just mentioning that I have not filmed any of these animals unfortunately and I only brought my cell phone.
Attached is a photo from one of our hiking trails.
Do not know if I can use any of the recordings from Rondane, hope that a plan will soon appear.
Tomorrow I will travel on a week's vacation to Makarska in Croatia.
I only bring my cell phone and my GoPro camera.
Someone else who has made plans for Uwol 44?

Hi Geir,
That's unfortunate you missed the aurora. You are not alone though. I had hoped to get some shots of it too, but the smoke from all the forest fires is so thick, at times, you can hardly see the moon!!
I had a bit of a plan when i was in Well Gray provincial park in central British Columbia. It involved the chinook salmon on their travels up the Clearwater river to spawn. Unfortunately i only had a couple of hours in which to get all the footage i would need, & in that time, there were hardly any fish moving up, so i missed out. I'll now need to come up with plan B.
Good luck to all.

Sorry to hear you missed the salmons, Bryce. Was a good idea you had. Hopefully your plan B will become even better.

How is everyone doing?

I'm a none starter this time. Missed the sign up. Then followed the links to the UWOL news post and discovered there was a UWOL t shirt. Got all excited and didn't notice the date on the post. Sad to say I missed it by a few years. Better luck next time.

Hope to see you next round, Mark!

Yes, been years since we got those t-shirts made. (Before I took over the rudder of the challenge).

Just now getting an idea for my film.

Hopefully I can plot out a story from the single sentence I have jotted down. :)

It's been quiet here...
Hope everyone has found an idea by now.

THis time i am not sure what i am going to do, attempted 2 different subjects and spent time with them however not sure i came home with some decent footage to make a film on it, lets see i may put up a 1 minute film or so if i can weave a story with the footage i have. Both the locations are not something i would be able to visit soon and they are really time based.

I'm done - I got some footage of local birds looking after their young and intended to get down to the lake to get some more but time got away from me, doing 2 weddings a weekend wipes out any free time I have - next time

Re: UWOL 44 - Tales of wonders and woes

Late starting this round - again.
So I decided to venture onto a local walking trail that starts in the national park, and keeps going much further through old farmland and bush. Been a couple of years since I ventured that way. So I scouted it out the other day with just the still camera. Lots of creek crossing, as it criss crosses the creek many times.

I also impulse bought a cheapish Black Magic Cinema Camera just recently. So I need to get the hang of that. Decided to try it out for this round, for better or worse. Ahead of some short films I will hopefully use it for. I also made a cable to go between a 12V battery (Lithium Iron Phosphate - 7.5 AHr) and the camera to extend the battery life in the field. I think I quadruple checked the polarity before plugging it in - I've made a similar mistake before ;-)
Anyway time to try and edit what I have together and see if I have enough to make a story out of it. I'll see if Resolve 14 plays friendly, or I'll make do with Premiere.

As always, you see more wildlife than you capture - including a feral dear (stag). Wallabies and Lyrebirds didn't want to sit still at all. And I must have scared 3 wombats on the journey. It's some heavy gear to lug around for 8km, but hopefully helping me get back in shape. The wet feet from not picking the shallowest path through the creek didn't help the blisters... but you have to suffer for your art right ;-)
