UWOL #4 - "argent" by Grant Sherman
 

Sorry about this effort. It was a bit of a rush job, over a busy weekend. I should have organised my time better. I got various bits of film over the three weeks. None of it seemed to fit together into a coherent story. I learnt a lot about time lapse - how not to do them!

The name came later - every cloud has a silver lining. The gulls that you see washing and drinking in the freshwater pond are Herring Gulls (Larus argentatus) and Lesser Black-backed Gulls (Larus fuscus). Argentatus - argent - silver.

The "music" is computer generated stuff. It's digits of the number 'pi' turned into midi notes.

I actually thought you had a real interesting approach. I would have liked to see the sky colors a little richer. the cuts between the various cloud clips were harsh. A thought: you could set them on seperate time lines, stagger them 15 frames, use key frame markers on the opacity levels and then that would create seamless transitions. anyway, just a thought.

Once you explained the concept behind your film it all made perfect sense.

Like Dale mentioned a little deeper sky colors and some smooth transitions would have made it a bit less jumpy.

Who knew Pi could sound so good? :)

It may have been rushed but you stayed out of the tank!!!

An interesting approach to the topic.
Washing gulls are beautiful to watch I wish you had a close up of them though.
In lack of more variation of scenes maybe you should have short’n it a bit?
I loved your music and as Kevin said; Who knew Pi could sound so good?

Wow. digits of the number Pi. The school I teach at has a Pi day every March 14th ie 3.14 I should show this example to the math teachers very cool.

The images were nice...I think a wider variety of shots would have made it more interesting however. I liked the water on the glass image very much.

Nicely composed shots, but i wanted more variety!!!
I have you at a bit of an advantage over most here when I can say I've been to Lundy - there are classic wide and tight shots everywhere you look around you, I'd love to see more of it ;-)

Grant, the music sounded good to me.
Amazing what pi can do.

You got some nice shots of the gulls.
Maybe a little more variation in the shots would have been better, but you made a good film.

Grant, a special and interesting approach to the theme. As other have commented, a bit more variation in the footage and you got a killer ;-)

This was fun to watch, and I did enjoy the slow fades, and your abstract water and sky. The gulls were great. I would have preferred a bit more variety to the footage, but did really enjoy it. And your description of the music with pi is fascinating!
