Quendas

I was not sure where I should link this quick and dirty backyard clip. I am not part of this community so please forgive the intrusion if it is such.

The work is not of production qualty and posted as no more than a look-see about one of our cuter creatures out here in the west of Australia, more well known for poisonous snakes and crocodiles.

Good one Bob. You should consider entering the UWOL contest in the next round.
It would be great to get some views of the world down under from an Aussie point of view.

The first time one had a dig at my shoe, my foot was in it at the time in the dark as I was hanging some laundry out under the carport. The main damage was done when I kicked my shoes off onto the doormat outside, a big patch of stitches torn on the upper and the side split away. There had been a little 1/4" tear there which gave the bandicoot a place to start.

It will be a good while before I do any serious editing - cost problems. Computer is now only good for assembly by counting frames and no sound as it won't play back despite new HDD and clean reinstalls. That is why there is no voice track or ambience, only music.

Dale.

I don't know much about their socialialisation. They don't seem to be all that intelligent. Everything they eat they dig at with their front paws first. The catfood bowl outside is dragged all over the verander. They seem to have good memory though.

I put the catfood bowl on top of a cat pole, which had two side ledges on the way up and a complete panel on top which overhangs the column.

They were scaling the two side ledges but I thought the overhang would have them beat.

There was a mark on the shadecloth where they were launching off from the ledge against the shadecloth and bouncing off it to get on top. I'm am only guessing what was happening from then on. The food bowl was always on the floor next morning, so they were either getting up on top and digging at the bowl or the bowl was being shook off when they landed on the top panel.

Whatever, one of them had worked out a system by trial and error.

The mothers carry the young in a rear-facing pouch but once they are big enough they are on their own. They take it in turn to get at the food bowl so there is some sort of hierachy based on the biggest and strongest first.

They don't seem to interact, except when breeding and then there is a lot of chasing and fighting going on.
