UWOL 48 - Tales of wonders and woes

As always, interaction between the players is encouraged.
What goes great, what did not go as planned, and everything in between, about the making of your UWOL 48 films.

Hope all of you have found an idea for your entries. Your imagination is the limit.

Don't be afraid to ask if you have any questions.
Have fun, and bring it!

Any progress with finding ideas and making your films?

Got an idea. Don’t know how to translate that into a film yet

Re: UWOL 48 - Tales of wonders and woes

I'm lucky to be living high in the Andes Mountains, but I can also quickly (and cheaply) be deep in the Amazon rainforest which is where I'm headed next week. Now that I have time to focus, I'm finding it fun to plan time in the jungle to flesh out the concept that I've developed. Knowing that part of the jungle extremely well is a huge help in planning shots before I get there.

Of course, whether or not I have the talent to actually produce something that is worthy is another story....

Hope everyone's doing well and progressing with your projects. I'm looking forward to seeing the videos next month.

I don't think we have had a film from the Amazonas rainforest before. Sounds very interesting. Hope your trip goes well, Phil!

Re: UWOL 48 - Tales of wonders and woes

I was a little unsure about posting anything about the upcoming trip because I didn't want to put more pressure on myself, but then I decided pressure is what I need!

That part of the Amazon region has been my second home for over a decade and my biggest fear is that I will spend too much time visiting with friends and not enough time out shooting. Preparing shot lists in advance -- something I've not really done in the past -- should help a lot along with getting away by traveling up and down the Amazon and some tributaries in small, slow-moving boats with the locals to get to more remote areas.

It's a lot of fun having more time to plan and prepare. Just hope I can pull it off! At the very least, I am learning a great deal which is one of the goals of the competition and all my future work will benefit.

I can't put into words how much I'm enjoying it here, Bob. It seems every day brings something new and wonderful.

Didn't want to post anything on the thread earlier just in case I ended up in the tank, but pretty confident I've got at least the beginnings of a film now. I'm learning a couple of new skills along the way too, so feeling quite positive about the whole thing at the moment.

Without wishing to create a surfeit of pressure I'm dreadfully excited to see this Amazon footage Phil!

Thank you very much to Trond for running the comp. Can we use creative commons or creative commons attribution 3.0 music or do we specifically need a commercial licence?

H

Re: UWOL 48 - Tales of wonders and woes

Any music you can legally use with your published film, is good enough for UWOL challenge.
UWOL is not commercial use. The player retains all rights for their films.

Re: UWOL 48 - Tales of wonders and woes

I hope I don't let you down, Henry. I'm leaving Wednesday morning for Iquitos. The problem is that it's hard to get far away from "civilization" without paying a lot, but I'm hoping I know enough places where I can still shoot in the rainforest (complete with the usual assortment of animal life), but finding larger mammals to shoot can sometimes be very hard. (I once lucked out and got a few seconds of video of a river otter in a VERY unlikely place.)

I'm also a little concerned as friends have told me that, with the downturn in the economy, crime has increased considerably. That means I have to be extra careful with my equipment. That does worry me a little.

Wish you the best of luck with your project!

Phil

In the middle of the fires in California. Not getting much footage but so disheartening seeing so much devastation!

I'll admit, I have no clue yet what I'm going to do!

Re: UWOL 48 - Tales of wonders and woes

Still plenty time, Tim.
Remember that a very basic idea can become a really good film. It does not need to be a fancy or advanced subject. (A bunch of ants being busy climbing over/ under obstacles, is one example of a basic idea...)

Thank you Phil! Just finished here so breathing a sigh of relief. Hope your trip went well.

Trond, many thanks for the info. I've just finished my entry and emailed the uwol adress for upload details.

I got dreadfully close to a lot of bugs filming this so if nothing else it may have cured my arachnophobia ;)
