Wild Nosara - Non-competition Entry

This is a non-competitive entry as I shot the footage 2 months ago in Nosara, Costa Rica. I just wanted an excuse to cut some surfing/monkey footage I shot. I am working on a project (or 3) involving the wild Howler Monkeys, and some other wading birds.

This piece is intended to be a subtely humorous look at monkeys watching surfers for entertainment.

Even if you're a non-competing in uwol#3, it's a great film, Ken.
I love your sence of humour and the way you put it together.
Those monkeys are amusing.
I'm not an expert, but maybe you should try out the trim-editor, just to adjust some of the transitions?
Great colours, music and plot, all together :)

Hi Ken, this is a good movie. I like it.
You put it together really well.

Hi Ken:

Awesome video. I loved the humor at the end. I had to laugh! Since Ruth, Meryem and I are the minority females of the group I think we are just going to have to allow that kind of humor once in awhile. What a fun piece of work!

thanks for your honesty, ken, you are giving me some inspiration for a non-competitive category, because after all, it's about getting some projects completed. my entry was an edit-only piece as well, since the footage was shot during sign-up. not that i'm eligible anyway, but an edit-only non-compete category is a pretty good idea.

Meryem, I think that will be a real good idea! There is so much for us to pick up from each other. I've seen people develop very well from the first uwol, myself included.

I had about 2-3 hours of supplemental (fun) footage that I needed to capture and log from my trip so this gave me some semblance of motivativation to do so (though I just put this piece together on the last weekend).

I don't want to detract from the mission of the challenge, which is to get us out filming, and not submitting something thats been on the shelf collecting dust.

I must admit to some self-indulgence as well because while I was cutting that HD footage on the widescreen, I could practically feel the warmth of that ocean water and the sand between my toes.

I used to study monkeys, and was really impressed by the quality of the footage and audio you got of the howlers. I took 4 trips to Costa Rica in the course of my primate studies, and that is nearly as close as I ever got to them in all my research. As for humor, hmmmm.... funny, but.....

Thanks for sharing this video, I liked the concept, and the footage was stellar.

Ruth,

Thanks, I was actually working on documenting the problems that the howlers are having in this village. They have been getting electrocuted at an alarming rate from the overhead wires. It's a long story as to why, but there are a group of concerned residents trying to help solve the problem

I do have more better footage of females (and babies), and other males. I was using a 70-200 2.8 L series lens on my H1, so there is some stunning footage.

I will cut some of that and post some clips.

Playa Nosara is a small surfing village that has maintained the 200 metre 'no development' zone from the high tide line, and the Nosara Civica Association are trying to protect all public and private green space.

Sorry, the attempt at humor was just that... an attempt.
