why would you guys not buy this for the HD10u? it is REAL High Def and a nice small price...is this not a good option? or?

For a monitor, most guys here want something that does full 720p res or very close, this set has a native resolution of 1024x768 and a 4:3 aspect. This set only supports 480p and 1080i output, but obviously the 1080i output is limited by the set's native resolution and with the cropping to 16:9 has an effective pixel resolution of 1024x576 interlaced for 1080i display, it's essentially only half of full HD res. The Monivision 30" 16:9 set is a popular choice because it can display 720p without converting to interlaced format, which a lot of sets (including this Samsung) can't do. The monivision is also limited to 1024x768 native resolution, but with it's 16:9 aspect ratio, it's effective display of 720p is works out to 1024x720NI as opposed to the 1024x576I.

Personally, if I were using this JVC cam for any kind of production, I would actually want a 1080i monitor instead of trying to match the 720p format of the camera. Why? Because the majority of HDTV sets out there are limited to 480p and 1080i display so it would serve best to make sure it looks good on what most people have. Besides, the camera's native 720p can be seen and played-back on the computer screen during editing.

I recently picked up a Sony SDM-V72W monitor which I'm using for 16:9 DV (anamorphic 720x480) from my PDX-10. Very nice little LCD screen, 17.1" diagonal, 500:1 contrast ratio, 1280x768 with 16:9 aspect ratio. It accepts VGA, component and s-video. Sony is offering a $200 rebate on this monitor through the end of August. Seems like a good match for the HD-10 if you want something portable. They also make a 23" version of the same screen, but it's way more expensive.
