Standard vs. High resolution monitor

I have decided to buy a 14" pro monitor and have seen some different ones from JVC and Sony. One is standard resolution and one is High Resolution. JVC's are generally cheaper than Sony's.
Can someone tell me the difference? Do I need a High resolutiuon for viewing DV output? Is the cheaper JVC okay?

Since you've not specified the monitors you're considering it's hard for anyone to accurately comment. The higher the horizontal resolution the better. But as long as a monitor has the basic professional features (ex. underscan, blue-only) you should be fine.

DO no know about JVC, I guess a worthy choise as well, but the common wisdom in pro field are Sony moniors (at least in my, non TV broadcast environment).

Sony monitors have a distinct "look" which, according to Jeff Donald, have become a defacto standard in the broadcast industry.

If you're not doing such work a JVC might be just fine for your needs. I've no direct experience with JVC monitors.
