Will an HD TV work well as a monitor for previewing video and color correcting? It says it has DVI inputs, will this allow me to plug it directly into my computer and have FCP play the video through the DVI connection?
This is the model I was looking at.

It depends on the how the monitor treats SD video.

This is really a high-resolution television, not a broadcast monitor. The television industry uses the label, 'Monitor' to differentiate it from a 'television' that has a tuner.

So if your system and the 'monitor' have compatible signal connections, yes it will work. How well, as compared to a broadcast monitor is unknown. But certainly better than no display at all.

You might be better off getting a NTSC monitor or an industrial grade television for better color accuracy.

2- What you see on your computer monitor from Final Cut isn't very accurate to what your video will look like (many issues). If you are new to video I highly recommend hooking up any TV to your deck to have an idea what your video looks like. Consumer TVs can't/shouldn't be trusted for color accuracy, so don't assume colors look the way they are (i.e. some consumer TVs are overly saturated and contrasty, or have their white balance off).

I already have a consumer grade TV connected, but I have to turn on my mini DV camera to use it. The reason I liked the HD TV was that it would connect via DVI and I could justify the expense because it works as a normal TV as well.

What should I buy to connect my TV, or NTSC monitor if I buy one, to the computer without using my camcorder. I am still just doing this as a hobby, but I would like to start doing more editing work. My budget is very small, but this is an important thing to buy I guess.
