16:9 LCD field monitor?
 

Hey,

I am an xl1s owner who just purchased an xl2. I have the Nebtek 5" from ZGC (http://www.zgc.com/zgc.nsf/902a2548f...light=0,nebtek) and love it.

Unfortunately, I am now shooting in 16:9 on my xl2 and since this monitor is 4:3, its streched. Is there and way to have the camera add bars to the composite output? (I already know the answer to this... just wishful thinking).

More importantly, does anyone know of a good 16:9 LCD field monitor, comparable to the Nebtek, which is a reasonable price and can run on battery power? Canon should make an external LCD monitor that plugs into the viewfinder jack...

The one I use came with my Glidecam V16. It can be switched between 4:3 and 16:9. I don't know who makes it. It is a 7" LCD monitor.

I wonder how it compares. It doesn't have an S-video connection, but composite should still display correctly since you can manually switch the monitor setting. (I think) I'm not sure if this one could be run off of battery power... It is a bit cheaper.

I use the Nebtek-modified version of that Panny LCD 7" - used to be called the Nebtek "NEB70XL", but looks like it is now called the "NEB70LI"

I keep it stored inside of a KATA LCM-1 case http://www.kata-bags.com/Item.asp?pi...d=1&ProdLine=1 excellent case for this monitor which keeps it in showroom condition.

Doug, you might want to check eBay for some deals. I just ordered a used Digimedia LCD widescreen TV for my next project (see it here).

This can be useful to use as a director's monitor and it has s-video input + built in speakers. Resolution is 1440x234. You can probably find better, but if you're on a tight budget, you might consider this one (although not the best to mount directly on your XL2).

Other brands to look at are Starvision, Lilliput and Xenarc.

I don't think there's any question that the 7"Panny is the best LCD field monitor in the price range. Ken Tanaka can tell you a lot more about it. I'm getting a new one next week for a lighter field option than our 8045Q. The Panny has the highest res and brightest screen of anything out there. Nebtek has them "canonized" with battery adapter and video connections. I talked to Rob Dupree (sp?) recently and they were back ordered...probably because of the XL2 release, however they're very good people and if you buy it from B&H you can have them drop ship it to Nebtek and they'll do the conversion and ship it out in a day or so.

So the NEB70LI is a Panasonic TC-7WMS1 with an XL battery mod? If so, it looks like that may be the way to go... One other question though. On the B&H site, it doesn't mention an s-video input, but in the pic on the nebtek site, it looks like there is an s-video cable. Can anyone clarify? Thanks!

Composite Input
 

Mine takes a 2 cable composite input, video and mono sound.
