good monitors to use while editing hdv - would this work?

I just ordered 2 of these for about $900 which is a pretty good deal. but i'm wondering if they will be suitable for my hdv editing with either a G5 or pc???

Do you use them as Computer-Monitors or as Component-Preview ?

I guess Computer-Monitor.

By the way: Can someone tell me for sure, that if one wants a component-HDV-Monitor it has to match EXACTLY 1280*720 or 1920*1080 right ?

i will use them as computer monitor and hope to g-d that i can get close enough colors for HDV editing since i can not afford any means of going out of my G5 to preview like the AJA cards or the other cards. unless someone has other suggestions

I've got a 23" HP2335 1920x1200. When I view component HD in it is slightly stretched to fill the full screen. It's somewhat annoying, but not horrible.

I bought the WinBook 32" LCD-TV at Micro Center after taking my Z1 into the store and testing it out. It has 2 compent, 2 composite, DVI, VGA, S Video, built in TV tuner and the picture is great, terrific detail. It works as a monitor and as a HD TV - picutre in picture, etc. The price was $999 after $100 rebate (retail $1695). If you are looking for something for both work and home entertainment, it's hard to beat. It weighs about 45 pounds so you could haul it to a job if need be. I've used it over a week and am very pleased. I haven't seen anything better for the money. I love using it with Vegas 6

exact 1920 x 1080 on Dell 24 inch LCD monitor
 

For viewing a pixel perfect image on Dell monitors that are 1920 x 1200 pixels native resolution, go into the monitor's menu and select Images Settings then Scaling and set it to Aspect. This eliminates the vertical stretch to 1200, showing the video image in a slight 'letterbox' with the actual 1080 vertical.

I just started using this Dell 24" 2405FPW Ultrasharp and I am very pleased with it. I am using it as a monitor directly connected to my FX1 via component output, as well as a second DVI monitor for my computer.

Another setting I recommend for this monitor: When monitoring component input, the default view is cropped (or zoomed) exacly the way the FX1 viewfinder is-- the actual video image is slightly larger than what is being viewed on the viewfinder and monitor. In the monitor's settings, you can 'zoom out' to see the actual 1920 x 1080 image, which shows a bit more around the edges than can be seen on the FX1's LCD viewfinder or display. This is found under the monitor's Menu, then Positioning, and Zoom +/- .

My experience with this Dell may also apply to other monitors if their menu options are similar. Have fun!
