Problems with HP Dreamcolor LP2480zx & Mac
 

For those who use the HP Dreamcolor LP2480zx and suddenly find they can't calibrate it with their Mac-based edit system, it's because HP's Dreamcolor Solution software doesn't work with the El Capitan OS.

It does work with Yosemite.

If you've already upgraded and your Dreamcolor Solution software is telling you the LP2480zx isn't connected via USB -- and it is -- then you'll need to create a bootable drive with the Yosemite OS, then install the Dreamcolor software on that.

You can still do all your work with El Capitan OS, but to calibrate the LP2480zx you'll have to boot up with the Yosemite drive.

If you don't have a bootable Yosemite installer, there's a way to do that. But it's very technical and has some risks if the command line in Terminal isn't written exactly right.

It took a while for me to get my calibrator working after upgrading to El Capitan. Here's how I did it:

Create a bootable external HD with a Yosemite OS, then install the X-Rite i1 Profiler software, then the HP Dreamcolor calibration software. The i1 Profiler software can be found here:

If you can't find a bootable installer disc for the Yosemite OS, you can create one by following these instructions. It's a very technical process and it could erase your hard drive if you're not careful.

This worked for my MacBook Pro. I don't know if the same procedure will work for a MacPro.
