Samsung SyncMaster 215TW

Picked up a new Samsung SyncMaster 215TW a few days ago. The 215TW has several inputs, DVI, VGA, Composite and Component. A very good 21" widescreen with VERY good colors and a response time of 8ms. Stunning pictures from the component output on my Z1 and A1. Almost no colorcorrecting needed. It outperforms my Dell 2005, wich is now going to be my working screen. And the Samsung is used for preview and colorcorrecting! The price in Norway is about the same as the Dell 2005.

Correction: I ment Dell 2005, not 2405, for those who were wondering. This is now corrected in the text above. The Samsung is 1680 x 1050.

Hm,
just bought a Dell 2407, in some respects not as good as the 2405 I think.

However does the Samsung do 1920x1080?
My understanding is that the smallest monitors that give you full 1080 are 24"
The best of the 24" LCDs seem to be the Eizo but too expensive for my budget.

I'm using a recently purchased samsung sync master 244t.

Its a very good monitor for the money, and is in 1920x1200 with an aspect of 16:10 and it has HDCP through DVI-D. It does NOT deinterlace.

Bad news is when its fed a 1080i or p signal it stretches it over the full 1200 lines, so its in 16:10 or 4:3, but not 16:9. There is no way of stopping this.

Controls are fiddly and it screams out for a remote with a 4:3/Widescreen button. But it doesnt have either.

My PC wont play HD clips, my only source is HD broadcast currently, so I cant make a good assessment of the quality yet.

The 2407 are supposed to be based on the same panel, but have deinterlacing (and possible dead pixels). How are you getting along with the 2407 Bob?

I'm happy with it for the money.
It does 1920x1080 at the right AR, has lots of extras like a card reader and USB hub and looks very pretty.
However put any gradient test pattern on it and the banding problem is very noticable but in day to day use I've never noticed it. Also the brightness is not all that consistent.
All said for what I paid for it, it's excellent value. I sure didn't pay for a broadcast monitor so I never expected to get one.
Hopefully Dell will fix the issues and then I'll buy another one. I just needed a monitor in a hurry so I bought the Dell. The next step up quality wise is a LOT more expensive and for the kind of work that I do very hard to justify.
