playback with old tv

We're forced to use an old tv as a monitor for a while untill we get our real one back from the shop. the only problem is that its only giving us a picture in black and white. We're using a PC-A10 SCART adaptor (europe) Any ideas on what we can do?

oh...the tv isn't b&W :)

Thanks,
Miles

SCART is simply a connector that can house multiple connections.
If I'm not mistaken you are feeding it a SVHS signal while that
TV cannot handle that. Contrary to popular believe SCART does
in NO WAY garantuee that the signal you transfer on it is actually
playable on a TV neither does it convert it.

If you put SVHS on it then you are sending SVHS into the TV. If
you put Composite signal on it you are sending composite to
the TV.

Again I think you are sending the TV SVHS which it doesn't
understand (this results in a B&W picture). Try feeding it
composite to see what you get.

If this is not the case then a previous owner or the shop might
have dialled out all of the color with the remote or settings on/
inside the TV.

Please post back the solution if you find one!

I had a similar problem using scart adapter with S-video and R & L Channel sound. But what happens is that the adapter needs to have regular RCA Video (yellow) as well as S-Video and R + L Audio plugsl. When u have all combined the signal will be colour and no longer B&W.

I think the S-Video that only takes the Luminance and Chrominance (Y/C) also requires the other standard RCA video is needed for the full picture to be formed when using scart only, as the TV may not know not to process it, or something to do with the configuration of the Scard pins. I dont know why this is, but with S-Video AND Video plugged into Scart adapter the full picture appears in colour.

I have had SVHS through scart without composite (RCA) work
fine. I think the TV you were working on at that time simply
did not understand your SVHS signal. When you added the
composite signal it simply took that one to display.
