So this is Michael & Amy's SDE.

We literally came back from the EDU workshop on the Friday, spent about an hour or so with our children, before packing up and heading off to stay over in Seaford victoria. We had an early start so thought it better to not have to leave at some ridiculous time in the morning.

Let me know your thoughts - it's not perfect by any means & I'm sure we can continue to improve.

That was very nicely done Rochelle! Are you using DSLRs for all the shots?

Johannes, yep, GH1 with Z7 for some parts.

I'm so jealous that you got to use a sticky pod (or something similar) on this wedding. i've been wanting to do this for a long time but haven't had the opportunity. Great piece, I love all the prep shots.....

Another same day edit! Woo hooo!!!

here are the things that came to my mind as I watched this piece.

1. nice ceremony prep stuff
2. too many folding ribbon because we see it again with him and the car
3. nice go pro shot of the car
4. some shots looks jaggy (camera move wise)
5. some exposures are not right (white balance/focus/exposure)
6. some nice shots at the prep (reflection, putting jacket peeping shot, silhouettes, etc)
7. nice audio grab of her trying to remember the vow
8. the song changes very dramatically and we can feel this. I don't think we should show the glidecam shot of her entering on the "and I miss you" line. Its kinda bumping with each other making it distracting for me.
9. glidecam balance kinda off during first dance. should cut the part where its bumpy.

I think being a same day edit, you didn't get to "tidy" up a lot of things as much as you would on a normal highlight. But I guess these are the things that would make a lot of difference.

It's always good to see things from another person's eyes.
Agree that for an SDE it's not always possible to fix everything that would otherwise be fixed in post for a regular highlight.

It can be tough matching the sharpness of the Z7 sometimes to the softer lenses Dean uses and we have this discussion regularly - hence why he wants me to change cameras to get consistency

The song peak and entering church - yep, yeah, lol...know what you mean.

Dean used:

50mm 1.4
14-140mm

our other cameraman also used the gh1 but can't say off hand what he used.

Yes your right. The way Melbourne is spreading, Bendigo will become an outer suburb before too long.
I've had a GH1 for a little while and I'm getting used to it. Coming from using traditional video cameras it sure does take a lot more effort.
So far I've only used small B-Roll footage from it for paying jobs. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to rely totally on a DSLR for a wedding or pretty much anything that happens quickly. Eg: Focus and audio.
But I love the challenge that creative technology brings .... it's a lot more like an artform than simply a job.

By the way, I love your stuff Rochelle and Dean.. well done.
