Just completed another montage and would love some feedback....

Hey Vince,
Checked out your clip. I watched the first 2 mins. I personally don't like a lot of slow motion in clips for my entertainment. I'm not the bride in the video, so my opinion is just my opinion. From what I viewed your a very talented editor. Your filming needs improvement but that comes with time and lots of practice (I'm continually practicing myself), you may be new at the wedding video scene. Were you shooting with consumer cams or prosumer cams? I could tell they weren't the same cams at all. Keep up the good work can't wait to see your work a year from now.

You are dead right with the different cams, that was one of the reasons I posted...

I have two FX1 cams and a standard SD sony camera that I use for backup.

Unfortunately one of the FX1s failed and hence I had to use the lower quality cam for the second angle. I was very concerned that it would show and it obviously did....

As you rightly say I am relatively new to filming and my camera work leaves a lot to be desired....I have started to work with more and more manual settings, focus I am now confortable wiht but white balance, gain etc I tend to leave auto.

I guess it is just a case of get out there and film more of anything with the cams and experiment.

I also find it hard to colour correct.....each time I try I tend to end up with an off colour clip that really doesnt match at all. Any tips or hints from anyone would be greatly appreciated....

You are welcome Vince.
That's why it's very important to color balance properly form the beginning. Learn your camera in and out. It will help you as a operator on every job. Also I wouldn't leave the gain on auto. The FX1 gain is not bad at all and 18db is use able if you need to go up that high, but I want the cleanest picture in every environment I can get. Keep at it and you will get better and better if you push yourself. Take Care
