Anyone ever hear of Idostream

they do live wedding web broadcasts

Looks like they are looking to partner with videographers to promote their services. Sounds interesting. Anyone have any thoughts on what the market might be for this?

Not to bash Idostream or anything, but I'm not sure why a videographer would partner with them. You can offer this service yourself! (I do). I'm not sure exactly what they are providing as they say that you need the camera and laptop, and internet connection. So why exactly do you need them? My only guess is that they are providing the streaming server, which you can do yourself, or just make a quick call to Multicast and rent one for the event....$150 will get you 40gigs of transfer or so......which was more than plenty for 4 hours of coverage with 100-200 people watching for my last seven events. So again, not sure why you would need to partner with them. Maybe there is something going on here that I don't recognize. Wouldn't be the first time.

Benefits of partnering with I Do Stream

Most of the time when a videographer think about live webcasts they think about what equipment they need onsite. But what you should really think about is the whole solution.

One of the biggest benefits of partnering with us is the fact that we have an streaming server infrastructure in place, we provide an easy to use broadcast software, we create a customized broadcast page that contains a chat application and guestbook, and we provide live chat technical support to online viewers or optional telephone support for viewers.

This will free you from having to deal with online viewing problems and let you focus on the task at hand which is broadcasting live at the client site or performing your videography services.

Phillip,

Thanks for the response. I hope you understand that I wasn't trying to bash your company, I just honestly wasn't sure what you did from looking at your website. The streaming server infrastructure that you provide was kind of what I guessed was the main thing you provide, as THAT is the important thing, when you are getting a bunch of viewers.

So, yes I would say that you are providing a valuable service if you have the streaming server infrastructure. I have worked with Multicast in the past who provides access to Akamai's server infrastructure.....which is a huge plus as Akamai has the biggest server infrastructure that I know of.....and they were great to work with. I also already have the software that is needed, so I don't need that. (I use Wirecast). You can actually download Windows Media Encoder for free to broadcast Windows Media files or Quicktime Broadcaster for free to broadcast Quicktime files so basic software is readily available and FREE. You can also link these live streams right on your OWN existing webpage for people to watch, which also gives your website exposure.....again not bashing your company, just pointing out that I feel the REAL BIG service you provide is your server infrastructure as the rest of it is pretty easily and cheaply done by a videographer himself. But as a one stop solution, it sounds like a great idea. I am probably the exception as I have been doing R&D into doing this myself for at least a couple years so most 'one man video production companies' may not have the technical knowledge of how to put a live webcast together. For that reason, it sounds like your company is an ideal solution for many small video production companies.
Sorry if I came across as bashing you.

P.S. I think I read an article about your company in 'Event DV' or some similar magazine.
