For anyone who has shot a music video...
 

What advice or info could you provide to a first timer about to shoot their first music video? Any things I should look out for or pertinent information that may be of help? All help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I think if you could specify areas of interest or uncertainty of the processes

There is one of two ways you can do it. One: Playback the CD version of the song probably through the PA system so it's very loud, Or Two: Have them play the song and record it yourself if you have the equipment for it. And have that be the master the whole way through. Personally I did option one. It's far easier, plus I didn't have the sound equipment for recording.

I told everyone to really play, and to really sing, although their sound would be off. Of course the drummer must really play, so that is why I said it must be played back loudly so everyone else can hear over the drummer. Plus it is very important for the musicians to "get into it" it's hard for them knowing that they are not really playing, and alot of people are camera shy. I would do SEVERAL run throughs of the song, because the first few probably won't be the best, after being in front of the camera for a while, everyone tends to loosen up.

Shooting a music video is a great deal of fun, and you can be very creative. My first one turned out pretty cool, although I wish I had better locations, and a bit more of a storyline.

A tip for editing is to look at the "waveform" of the audio to line it up. Hope that clears a few things up.
