Anycast Audio
 

In a couple days I'm doing my first shoot with a Sony Anycast. The event has it's own sound guy, so I need to know how I can pipe audio straight from his board into the Anycast.

Sorry if there is an obvious solution to this but the manual is real vague (read: completely useless) on this subject.

The manual is very clear? The line level audio inputs are on the back panel - get him to give you an unbalanced line level feed, select it in the audio setup menu and it's done.

It has been quite a while since I've used any kind of live video switcher, and have no experience with SONY's Anycast, but a live switcher is a live switcher. To function properly a live switcher must mix and synchronize any incoming signals and send both master and sub master feeds of any combination of the incoming signals.

I do remember a lot of the SONY professional gear I used to work with featured XLR audio connectors which were USUALLY set to receive high, or line level signals. If the Anycast has XLR connectors, check to see if there is a high/low signal level switch associated with them.

I mention this because if there is a huge distance between the Anycast and the sound board (he's back stage and you are back of house) you might get some degradation in the audio signal if it is line level. If so, the low level feed will have more stability. If the sound board is just a few feet away, go with the already suggested "record out", or line level feed.

If so, and if the sound board has sub-master audio sends (fairly common on 12-24 channel boards), see if the sound tech can route your audio to one of these sub masters. At that point you can have the signal be either 1/4" line level or XLR mic level.
