"А Portrait of the Bride"
 

In December I went to Volgograd, Russia, to make a Wedding Film,
I share with you a short piece of it called "А Portrait of the Bride"

Please Let me know what you think, It's shot on Canon A1, just one or two shots with Sony FX1.

Oleg - very nice! I liked the dreamy, fantasy feel to it. Killer eyes on the bride and great expressions from the kids. What settings/frame rate did you use on the A1.

Oh wait, was I supposed to comment on the cinematography and editing? Funny, I barely noticed those... maybe I need to watch again.

I liked the video and the editing.

At the very top of the video probably the top 3 scan lines there is a lot of jumping around. Do you know what causes this? I experienced this with the last wedding I edited. Everything that I put slow mo on would get that jittery black scan line at the top of the picture. I don't know what causes this and I actually let the video go out even though this annoyed the heck out of me. The only fix I found was to scale the image to 103%, but that added a subtle softness.

Does anyone else see what I'm talking about and have any ideas how to avoid it? Is it a FCP thing? Actually I'm just assuming this was edited in FCP since I'm seeing the same funkiness I got.

I've seen the problem in FCP as well, but only when I'm editing DV Animorphic that was downconverted in camera on capture. I'd just assumed that it was something in the downconversion and didn't think twice about it past that.
I usually just crop a few pixels off the top and bottom when I output my MPEG2's in Compressor.

Anyone having this same problem editing native HDV? I don't see it there, but maybe you are.

I find the same problem in Premiere Pro 2.0, but only when i downconvert from the camera. Instead of cropping, I enlarge the footage by 1 pixel overall and it takes care of it. The scan line is very noticable when the footage is slowed down. good to learn i'm not the only one with this problem...

I should mention that the music was by Vangelis, and I used a factory preset this time, all CC done in post on FCP.

Very nice work. I wonder if you boosted color a bit for a bit more saturation in the greens? I like the music.

I've boosted some saturation and tweaked the image a little...

One word: captivating
With such beauty, those eyes, that music and dreamy camera motion I really was taken somewhere else. Really really cool.

I was captivated by those eyes too, good thing, I guess, together with the bride, the kids, bridesmates, we unveil the atmosphere of the day...
To be honest this is the my favorite part of the film, that consist of several parts.
