Tips for Camera Cases?

I'm researching an upgrade to XHA1's right now from GL2's. Currently I use a 3rd party metal case for each of my GL2's (they look just like the Canon metal cases). I'll be getting new cases for the XHA1's.

My debate is between soft (bag) type cases and the hard plastic cases. I'm also having a debate between dividers versus the cutout foam. I read something about "foam dust" and I'm not sure if that can cause issues with the cameras over time.

Any advice?

Personally I would go for a KATA MC61 with an insert trolley. That leaves you sufficient room to stow a number of additional equipment items and comfortable and secure transport capabilities.

The camera, 3 spare batteries, 12 spare tapes, shotgun, wireless set, filters, XLR cables, on camera light, J-Rod, mic suspension, cleaning set, and miscellaneous stuff fit in nicely.

How many cameras do you have? Do you shoot alone?

Personally, I've always used the Pelican hard cases and would avoid the foam cutouts. Sure, the little foam "fuzzies" get all over your stuff but most importantly, the padded dividers give more room.

We use Sony LCS-G1BP. They hold everything, the camera, mic, batts, tapes, headphones, more batts, bits for the glidecam, charger and a lightweight tripod all in one bag. Much easier to move and really well protected.

Well, the current plan is to purchase 2 A1's, and either 1 or 2 HV30's. I would like separate cases for the A1's at least, because I usually take 1 camera to film the bride and my assistant takes the other camera to film the groom. I'll check out the samples you guys have posted. Thanks.

I love my pelican cases, consider using one case for two. I have a large 1600 series and we plan to put three into it. Pelicans are really nice.

I would like to use one case for all, but like I said, on a wedding day the cameras get split up so I'd rather have a case to go with each of them for protection.

I am using the Lowen Pro Video Bag for My A1. With the dividers set it a nice snug fit.
Room for lots of accessories when I first got it, but as always its not big enough for everything Now. Its a soft Bag but reasonable padded.

I do have a ton of stuff in it though, Camera, Mic, rain cover, charger, spare Bats & tapes
XLR Cables a 15, 25, 50,ft, Filters, all the original Camera Cables, lens brush & cleaner,
large micro fiber cloth, SD cards and I sure there's more then that LOL. So It does the Job fairly well

Hey Travis,

I've had a Pelican 1650 since I bought my Canon XL2 three or so years ago. They are awesome cases and virtually indestructible.

Now that I've got 2 A1s to replace my XL2 I've bought another foam set which I'll cut out to fit the two A1s into the one case.

I'm pretty sure a couple of the smaller Pelican cases would work great for your situation.

Here's a place in Australia that offer custom cases for A1s - maybe there'd be somewhere in the US that does the same thing. http://www.videoguys.com.au/scripts/...idproduct=2403

Cheers,

Matthew.

Yeah Matthew, I have several pelican cases for my stuff. I have a 1630, that I'm about to put all three of my cameras in, one Sony Z1 and two Sony V1s. This will free up room in my truck when I go places.

Thanks, guys. I've found some Pelican and Porta-brace cases that I like. I think I'm going to go with the Pelican's.

I would ask for a Advisory fee, but I would have to hand my house over to Peter Jefferson and Steven House if I had to pay one. Travis, you'll love those cases, they are worry free, so to speak.

I've decided to go with a Porta-brace system for my A1's:

... and a Pelican system for my HV30:

I'm choosing the Porta-brace system for the A1's because for the money it offers a bit more interior space and also has wheels and an extendable handle. Thanks for all the insight and help everyone.
