85 min Sony DV Tape?

I just noticed B&H has an 85 min DV Tape, same brand as I like so much, but 22 extra minutes. Would there be any negative to this for my Canon XH-A1?

Shows good reviews

This could be great for those catholic weddings.

Denny, I have heard some say that they have had success with longer 85 minute tapes. but many have reported problems.

The problem is that the 85 min. tapes are thinner and more prone to problems with video and/or audio dropouts.

I shoot with HD cameras, and can only shoot in SP/DVCAM mode. And while I would love to get longer tape recording times, I don't like to have to rely on the 85 min. tapes for critical capture. Even though I shoot with 2-3 cameras at any given time, I wouldn't want to have my tape show nothing for a second or two (this is HDV tape dropout), for a money shot that I can only get once.

Thanks, I ordered the 63 minute ones, just not ready to rely on them for critical stuff. Will let time test these before I jump.

Denny,

I use those 85 minute Sony tapes when the length of an event requires it. I have had no problems with them so far. I use them in Sony Z1U cameras, in HDV mode.
