Gods of Wedding Cinematography
 

Hello,

I am new this forum. I have been shooting weddings since 1987, I am a product of the old school. I am quite happy & humbled to see fantastic wedding cinematographers in this group. Jason Magbanua, Still Motion,so many talented guys to mention.They are gods in my opinion. I look forward to learning something new from this new generation of wedding cinematographers.

I have clips but this will take you back to the 80's so I am holding off for now.

More power to this forum.

I've also heard that Jason takes that team of stylists and make-up artists with him to every wedding that he shoots to make sure he looks his best at all times :)

Thanks for the welcome Jason, Monday & Matthew. I also admire your work Matthew. I am shooting a wedding this Friday and an E-shoot this Saturday & Sunday. I'll copy the work of art that I have seen this forum.

Great to see another Torontonian on the forum ('tis a shame there are so few of us).

As for Gods, when I shot my first wedding 2 years ago I saw Jasons work and went ballistic. his stuff then (& now) still blows me away.

As for the new generation of wedding videographers I'm looking forward to seeing how Mayad Studios & Matt. Ebenezer 2.0 refines itself in the time to come... some crazy work from them in recent times.

I saw your work too!!!! Great, great, great. There's a lot of uncle bob wedding videographers in Toronto especially in my market (Filipino community). Like I always tell my clients you get what you paid for.

Have you guys heard of Rob Bruno ( Twenty-Four Frames)? I hear he does not shoot a wedding for less than $ 10K. I have not seen any of his works though, can't even find his website.

A bit more serious now :) I actually find it refreshing to hear about an old school guy who's not blind to a new generation "film" making when it comes to weddings.
Here in Belgium you also have many "old school" videographers but they usually get stuck in their 80's filming style and macro system Casablanca effects. Even my father who has been filming for over 20 years finds that the "god" videographers you refer to do weird stuff with their camera's and can't understand why it has to be like this now. :) He is more of a point and shoot kind of guy and just make sure he get's the important stuff but creativity? What's that? In general you can say there's nothing wrong with that because he delivers a solid product but times do change as well (just look at musicvideovlips on mtv from the 80's and how they produce it now)
Also I have been influenced a lot from what I have seen on this forum and by trying out different techniques eventually you get a mixture from different styles which makes what you are doing a bit more unique. You just need to be open to this kind of stuff.

I can only hope I will have the same attitude as you after 20 years of filmmaking, that keeps you young :).

I have not seen your work but I am sure you are up there. To be honest during the past few years, I am getting bored shooting weddings, however after seeing the works of people here, I have a renewed passion for the craft. Now I have to invest on a Glidecam,and all the other stuff the "gods" are using.

BTW I saw an AD for a steadicam JR for $ 250, is it worth it? I shoot with a vx2000.
