Buying a Pro Monitor Or Not

Hey Guys

I need a monitor for HD workflow but i don't know what to buy. Do i go out there and purchase a professional LCD monitor or do i purchase a LCD tv. I mainly do weddings but i still like to know how good my color grading is.
what are people using i borrowed a mates JVC 17inch pro LCD monitor it comes out ok i mean i am only using composite and viewing SD so how good can it be.

Please some ideas would be great.

I use a calibrated NEC 2490WUXi monitor on my workstation. It gives nice accurate color and consistent luminence.

On critical projects, I burn a test disc and check it on a 51" calibrated HDTV and a 25" CRT TV.

Any type of TV you might use for viewing your work would need to be calibrated. Consumer units don't have built-in calibration ability. You would have to plan on how to calibrate. Viewing on composite using SD is fine, the color will be the same, just not the resolution.

Bottom line, I would get a professional LCD for the workstation that is made to be calibrated. It's expensive, but makes life a lot easier.

Even a wedding needs good color.
