hv30 or hv40 2nd cam?

Hi Guys,

I am about to buy another camera for back up/camera b.I already have an A1 and the 5d mark2 .Which one of these cameras would best suit my needs.I'll be using it for cut away shot during ceremonies and receptions.I know I'll be having to play around with things in post to get anyone of these to match up but I'd still like to have another camera......just in case. Thanks!

I have been using the HV 20/30 as a backup for a while now. The footage is great, but you have to know the cameras limits. It doesn't do well in low-light. If our cameras are stretched thin, I make sure that the location that the HV 20/30 will be used at has decent lighting. Other than that, its a great camera.

Thanks Chad! I'm just gonna go ahead and get an hv30.Hope fully it will work well with the 5d and the A1.By the looks of your work it should do me just fine since I have A LOT to learn.Could you answer one more question for me? what is your export workflow to get your stuff to an nice looking FLV. file.I've been playing around with compressor and some $50 flah video converter and I'm not pleased at all.Any help you can offer me would be great. You stuff is beautiful.

If you're looking at the difference between a HV30 and HV40 you will find practically none, but like mentioned above they are both great cameras despite limitations.

I'm not Chad, and don't want to hijack, but I use FFMpegX for FLV files and it works quite well.

I'll agree with Chad. I have an XH A1, HV30 and HV10. They all match very well but the HVs collapse in low light and they don't degrade gracefully. Depending upon your shooting environment the HV30 can work very well. Just give it some light.

Thanks guys!

I'll check out that software Matthew...thanks for the tip.I'll make sure and have plenty of light available for the hv's.I have two off camera lowell id lights that I use for the reception.Hopefully they'll help.Otherwise I'll pray for bright churches....lol

Thanks everyone!
