Using Shotgun Mic With Plugin Wireless

I have read that it is not advisable to use a shotgun mic on a camera for the ceremony as it is too far from the action to pick up quality audio.

I wondered if anybody has used a shotogun mic mounted on a stand plugged into a plugin wireless transmitter with the receiver plugged into the camera?

If so please share your experience and tips.

If this is not being done and for good reason please share that.

and what is the shotgun used for?
If it's for the vows or any speech type audio from the altar it would be a waste of time. If using it to capture the music it would probably work as the music is louder and more localized-the piano or organ isn't going to move around. The officiant, the people speaking, the B&G are all NOT necessairly in the same place when speaking.
Use a quality wireless on the groom, perhaps a 2nd wireless on the lectern and use the shotgun on your 2nd camfor the music. It's worked for me for a long time.

Don,

I have 2 wireless lav mics to use on the groom and the officient. The shotgun mic would be for all other sound to be captured including music, additional speakers, etc.

In cases of multiple officients or speakers do you just lay the 2nd wireless lav on the lecturn / pulpit to pick up whoever is there?

OK so you're good for wireless. I set one on the lectern for the readers, officiant when he's there and it picks up the music etc so I've got a few tracks to choose from. As for the shotgun, again, I use the AT897 on my 2nd camera to get the music. It works very well since the music is loud enough and the camera is usually close enough to the music.
This setup works well for me for church settings. I use other setups for hotels, outdoors and other non church ceremonies.
