My First Wedding Video

First off, I want to thank you guys for all the information I am getting from all your postings. I am fairly new to the videography scene. I do this for a hobby but who knows? Shooting and editing is something that I really enjoy but I know there's still TONS to learn. I have picked Ed Troxels brain a few times and looking at this forum I'm sure I can learn a lot more... and hopefully contribute in the future.

So my first wedding video is not quite ready yet but is already in the editing phase. Since I have a day job I can only devote a few hours a day for it. No rush though, because it's my wedding... it's my wife who's now pushing me to finish it so we can send a DVD to her relatives back home.

I hired a couple of videographers who used 2 PD150s and 2 Senn Wireless lavs (one on me and one on the minister). I ended up with 9 MiniDV tapes which I just finished capturing last week (Wedding was on April 16). I didn't just want to let it run as I want to log everything so I know what to use on the video.

I also got a couple of MiniDVs from a couple of guests who brought their handycams and will use some of the footage for added effects.

As for my setup, I am using a Dell P4 2.8GHz, 768MB RAM, 128MB DDR Video card on a 3-monitor setup. I use a cheapo 14" TV as my external preview monitor using my 3CCD Pana (GS120) pass-through. Recently bought a Shuttle Pro V2 and loving it. I still have to figure out all the button-assignments though. As for the software, I'm using Vegas 5 + DVDA2 and AE.

I'd like to know from seasoned videographers/editors if there are any traps I should avoid. I'm only using basic transitions (crossfade, dissolve) and will probably use fancier effects IF and WHEN needed. For now I'm sticking with pure simplicity.

Thanks a lot and hope to learn more from all of you!

Rengie
