replace FX7 with a T2i ?
 

If your main camera was the HDR-FX7, would you replace it with a T2i?
B cam is an HF10.

no. replace the HF10 with the T2i.
FX7 should give you better video than the HF10.

The T2i only records 12 min at a time. Also there's no continuous autofocus or image stabilizer.

Use the FX7 for wide shots and audio capture and the T2i for DOF and closeups.

Unless you drop a lot of money on extras (follow focus/shoulder mount/audio recorder/mic/lenses/loupe) the T2i, IMHO, is not a good primary video camera.

That said... the images it takes (when properly adjusted) will blow you away.
It's been on a few shoots for me already and as a b-roll cam, it's spectacular!

Agree with Robert. For now I'd treat any VDSLR as specialty camera rather then main cam.

I third that. Even my crew guys who shoot on 7D and 5D would never be w/o a main video camera. I use the 7D for when I'm NOT in a rush or it's dinner or dancing at the reception.

If you got the money to invest buy one, but i recommend you rent one for a weekend and try some live stuff like a dog at a park.

I agree!! How do you shoot a 20 minute or more ceremony with a DSLR that has limited record time????

Maybe when they get to the stage where you can shoot 80 minutes onto a CF card and there is a decent XLR audio setup on the body, and, of course, full auto focus then it might be considered a main camera.

Apart from great DOF the obvious advantage is really top class glass especially from canon, but the tech downsides only make it really suitable for speciality shoots ..I could see a distinct advantage of doing the photoshoot session with a DSLR but not the main events.

I'm going to plan on timing my rec start and stop times between ceremony events (between readings,etc). I imagine the few seconds lost can be edited later.

i replaced my fx7 with a 7d (my main cam is still z5)

So now my A-cam is Z5, B-cam is 7d (so far only 17-55 lens)

not put it through the ringer yet, but im pretty sure the images from the 7d will be better than the 7d
