Weddings in the midwest US are more often than not all-day events with a 2 hour gap between the ceremony and reception. During that time the wedding party has a photo session or bar-hops. The guests have a cocktail hour (or two). A typical schedule is a 2:00 ceremony, then at 4:00 they leave the church. Dinner is 6:30 or so and dancing about two hours later. At the majority of events I show the SDE during dessert.

The most stressful SDE I ever did was about 6 years ago when the ceremony was at 6pm, and they wanted to show it at 7:30pm! They understood that if I couldn't edit it in time, they would push back the playback time. Incredibly, I finished it on time and it was a complete success. I couldn't have done it without Edius... realtime playback at SD resolution back then, no rendering at all. Typically though, there is a lot more time and we try to show the SDE as early as possible. The sooner you can show it, the bigger the impact.

In Singapore we get 4-6hrs typically. Chinese weddings start at 6am to 1pm. Reception starts at 7pm. Some couples do the solemnization/take their vows on a different day and there are no church weddings due to the multi culture/religions.

But sometimes we do get solemnizations at 6pm then the SDE gap is lesser by an hour.
