5D manual audio or not?

Hi guys,

just wondering if you guys use manual audio setting on your 5d when shooting general prep and also for those who are using beachtek/juicedlink, do you use manual or automatic setting?

Thanks in advanced

Santo

I wouldn't use anything but manual the 'pumping' you get with the AGC sounds horrible. The problem is that you have no meters while recording & can only set levels by going down through the menu system. Get familiar with the outputs of the microphones you use & it's not too bad. Only use the internal microphone as a last resort e.g. the batteries just died

Manual...

But, something to think about....

I notice that when I am shooting in a noisy environment, like around traffic, or where a band is playing, with background crowd noise, that auto setting can keep you from maxing out, and you don't have to worry too much about the camera developing a hiss as sound goes down, because the crowd drone is high enough where you won't have th camera putting a lot of gain in.

I always put it on auto... :(

will try to use manual tomorrow.

I agree on noisy environment like a club party, you would leave it at auto. but probably when you only want to get those voices of people then you would set it to a level where its just peaking when people are screaming but not when they are laughing? if that makes sense.

Thanks guys!
