HD and FCP Workflow

I just upgraded to HD and I'm trying to find some best practices when working with Final Cut Pro

I shoot in 1080/60i and someone told me to capture the footage in HDV and later convert it to ProRes LT. Then I do all of my editing. Once I finish, I send it to Compressor and deliver to DVD.

Also, I generally import all of my footage. Couldn't I just import the footage in HDV, edit, and use compressor to export to ProRes, and then use that ProRes file to DVD?

What is everyone else doing? Would like to see if there's a better way.

Thanks

Hi Nick,
The most common way is to edit the HDV natively but set your timeline to use ProRes (LT) as the render codec. ProRes will render better and faster but at the expense of larger files. When you're done editing render the full timeline, export a reference movie, drop that into Compressor, and use the default SD DVD settings for the length of your program.

This thread will be transferred to the Final Cut Pro forum in 3, 2, 1...
