Shooting in 24p vs 1080 60i with the GH2 and GH1
 

I have a wedding today, and at the last minute am considering trying out 24p. I posted questions about this in the GH2 forum when I should have probably posted it here.

Hi Jeff

This is a bit late since you already shot the wedding..if you did it for the first time in 24P then you are braver than me!!! I play it safe with weddings and shoot them all in 1080 i ... I have tried a few progressive formats and didn't see a huge advantage so I went back to interlaced!!

I wasn't aware that the GH's shot interlaced??? I thought they shot progressive only but in a interlaced wrapper???

It will be interesting to hear your comments if you did try 24P at the last minute!!! On my HMC's I wasn't too impressed with 24P at all..I got pixellation on the brides face for some reason... luckily that was the rehearsal!!!

Chris, you are right, the GH1 does not shoot interlaced, I was working from memory, and got confused. It shoots 24p as 60i, but it does not shoot straight 60i.

I did not shoot 24p for the wedding. My shooting style is so conservative it would probably work fine for me. I was very biased against 24p for a long time, but having seen huge numbers of people using effectively I've back off from that position. Part of me also disliked the way people flocked to it as if the very fact they shot in 24p made them a filmmaker, and I viewed it as pretentious that someone that couldn't frame a shot properly made a huge deal about the frame rate he/she was using.

Anyway, I have four cameras I shoot with and between them all, three can shoot 24p (non-60i) and three can shoot 720 60p, but the four of them do not have one frame rate in common, unless you count 24p (60i) as being the same as 24p. I supposed the 24p in a wrapper can easily be deinterlaced using HDLink, which hadn't occured to me.
