In the spotlight

Hi - so I filmed a wedding last weekend and there was a shaft of sunlight shining straight down in front of the alter - guess where the priest stood for 90% of the ceremony!

I have a lot of those on my wedding, that's where the spotlight button comes in my camera, I hope you have that feature also in your camera.

That's the divine light that shines on the righteous, he must be a very holy man.

I have a church where just that happens where the bride stands. She lights up like one of those madonna souvenirs with a light bulb in that people bring back Lourdes.

That priest is hot hot hot!
Nothing we can do when the Lord shines his light.

short of falling to your knees and asking for Devine Intervention.
I'm sure you could get someone with a big ladder that'd be willing to climb up on the roof and throw a tarpaulin or something over the window!!

With his white outfit, you should be thankful that he added a nice fill light to the bride and groom. Until we get 14 stops of lattitude and RAW shooting capability, I'm afraid there is little you can do to make this look good. If you have MB Looks, you can try a spot exposure mask and tone it down slightly. But anything clipped will look funky and might draw even more attention to the priest.

Thanks guys - in all my time doing this it's a first! If I film at that church again I'll pre-warn the couple.

As soon as I noticed (like straight away) I adjusted my framing accordingly - he's not in it too much - apart from my remote wide camera - ah well

It's preventable (or at least minimized greatly) in a two cam shoot with telephoto lenses.

hypothetical example:
Cam1 on b&g (priest not in frame), f3.2
Cam2 on priest (b&g not in frame), f5.6
