Anybody using a Panasonic HC-X900M?

I just got a Panny X900M to use alongside my AG-AC130. I also run and gun with a 7D. Just wondering if anyone is using this relatively new Panasonic as a static cam, etc. and how the footage mixes in post with a higher end cam. I am thinking I would shoot both Panasonics in 1080/60i, and up-convert the frame rate of the 7D footage in Compressor before heading to the FCP timeline. I started a similar thread on the Panasonic boards, but it's pretty quiet over there. I know you guys wil have plenty to say!

Thoughts?

Ben

I don't have an answer, but want to know as well. We were looking into getting something like this as just a stationary back-up cam. Would be interested in knowing how it mixes in as well!

I would suggest a second camera should be selected based on criteria such as offering the same frame rates as your primary camera, IMO.

I selected the XA10 because it offers the same frame rates as my GH2.. In other words, it solves problems instead of creating them. It offers real 24p, has XLRs, etc. Less expensive cameras offer 24p in a wrapper, etc, but I just don't like mixing footage. If it all doesn't match, it's no good to me.

Post conversion of footage is certainly doable, and I've done it many times, but no more. It's not worth the headaches and time inovlved. I still have old weddings that require conversion and I cannot wait to be done with them.

Ben have you combed through the monster TM900 thread in the Panny room? You may find some relevant information in there as many folks are using it as a B-cam and the X-900 is to all intents and purposes a TM900.

I'm not familiar with the AC130 but I mix 1080 50p from several TM900's with 1080 25p from two 5DII's all the time (PAL land).

Pete
