life imitates art

if must be my year for off the wall happenings..

There's a movie about a woman who loses her memory and the husband had to help her recover - the vow? - a pretty lame romcom by all acounts.

I met a guy last week who's wedding I shot about 3 years ago - he looked much the worse for wear and guess what had happened?

His wife had a grand mal seizure and forgot who she was, they're been trying to rebuild her memory for the last couple of months. She remembers bit and pieces and occasionaly large chunks come back but the Husband said it was very difficult - they have a 5 month old!

She started to remember him but thought they were still friends in high school, so the family sat down and showed her the wedding video.

Can you imagine what that must have been like, watching your own wedding for the 1st time, recognizing yourself but not the situation you were in.

all the little things/experiences/feelings that make you a couple are gone - I can't imagine how tough a time they are both having - I hope she recovers fully.

Suddenly my editing backlog doesn't seem quite so important, I think I'll take the wife to the movies - her shout!

You only do realize what impact your video could have if you run into a situation like that, the past year I have had a wedding where the brother of the groom died 3 weeks after the wedding. The brother of that groom gave a very funny and personal 20 minute speech at the wedding, the bride called me one day after he died asking me if I had all the speeches and if I could make a separate dvd of that which they wanted to hand over to his wife. They had a lot of photo's from him but my recording was the only memory they had where you could see and hear him speaking. That's a moment when you snap out your routine of daily editing and take a step back, but only for a little while because life goes on. It does however teach you to put things into perspective.
