DVD for another region?

Hi All,
Created, produced and burned many projects all in NTSC format for use here in US. I am shooting a wedding this weekend and client needs 1 DVD for Israel in what he calls "multi-system", but I think he simply needs one in PAL? This is my first request of this type and am not quite sure how the experts do it.

All home burnt DVD's are non-region (multi-region) - you can't region code them like Hollywood used to. You just need to convert to PAL.

In the UK most if not all DVD players will play NTSC OK.

All region 2 players play both NTSC and PAL because Japan is NTSC and in region 2 ;)

Not sure about Israel, but it looks like it's in region 2 also.

The players weren't the problem in the past, it was the (PAL) TVs not being able to accept NTSC signals. I would think (but don't know for sure) that most LCD TVs would accept it just fine, but it's worth checking with them.

The other issue with supplying the DVD in NTSC is that older clients (like Granma) might still have an antiquated CRT TV and an old DVD player too so if I have to send DVD's out of my area I always make them to the foramt that suits the country..It does mean that you have to render the footage out to PAL but in the end I'd rather do that than have to redo the DVD's cos they won't play on very old systems that will only work with PAL

Re: DVD for another region?

Actually there're two separate issue here.

DVD Region
That's what other mentioned, home made DVD you can set it to region-less. It is meant for commercial movies that usually released in different dates in different markets. Say like, Japan and US are both NTSC. But Japan region DVD can't be played back in the US and vice versa.

TV System
That's NTSC and PAL. Multi-system usually refers to PAL countries that able to play back NTSC signal. The specs are different for NTSC and PAL. NTSC is 30fps 720x480. PAL is 25fps 720 × 576.
