Flo pod or steady cam
 

Does anyone use flo pods or steady cams or any other stabilizer when shooting weddings? I dont mean for montage stuff but more for practical stuff like dancing or cocktail footage maybe even toasts when you cant get a tri pod in?

I only use mine for the photoshoot so I can go around the couple 360's and then toss in some slomo. I used to use the rig even for bridal entry but you simply run out of space.

Then again mine is a full vest and dual arm so it needs space...I guess if you get something like the Sony CX730 or Panny TM900 that could go onto a handheld sled for stuff like dancing...However often again it's just too full to use it practically!!! (and more stuff to carry into the reception venue!)

I would love to use my Steadicam Pilot more but as Chris notes it's not really practical for most weddings. Only with a large wedding with multiple shooters is it possible to have a dedicated Steadicam operator.

I use a handheld Glidecam 2000 extensively & have it within reach with a camera mounted at all times ready to be picked up & flown.

A Steadicam will take up more space than a tripod. You need room for you, the arm and sled.

We use ours on every single shoot but only for really short periods. Bride walking down the aisle, cocktail hour, first dance. But as you know the impact of a correctly used Steadicam shot is quite powerful.

I was looking at the flopod video it didnt look that cumbersome and at the reception I have a free camera that I could have mounted on it for certain shots. I have the pilot that was given to me and I cant see doing anything practical with that.
