Mounting plate advice

Hi - not really the forum for this but i know a lot of you use DSLR rigs so here goes... i bought from SmallRigEurope (via amazon) this tripod mounting plate for my rig.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The thickness of the plate is 8mm but try as I might I cannot find a 1/4" or 3/8" screw with a shaft as long as 8mm - I want to attach a manfrotto QR adapter but am running out of options - typical 'long' shaft length on tripod screws is 7mm too short!

Any ideas?

Hi Peter try these, same problem but these are longer stick them over the top of the 7mm and should be ok, or if needed the other way around there are similar ones.

Hi Pete

The other method is to go to your friendly fastener store and simply buy a 1/4" whitworth bolt that is the length you need. I have often needed longer fastening bolts and that's the way I go. Cheap as chips too!

The thing is Chris that I think it really needs an unthreaded shaft so that the threaded end can rotate freely - otherwise you never really get whatever you're attaching to the plate tight enough. Have a look at a QR tripod plate for a good example.

In this case as the plate is 8mm thick ideally the unthreaded part of the screw/bolt needs to be at least 8mm.

Re: Mounting plate advice

Your looking for a 1/4 - 20 tripod screw. This will have the unthreaded post you spoke of and then get some "C" clips to hold the screw onto your tripod sled.
Go to ebay and get 20 for about $15.00
