Disc prints would look a lot better if just one of the Blu-ray manufacturers would give us the same option we had for dvd, a premium glossy printable surface.

Why not? It's a mystery.

River Pro Audio here in the UK do them. Photo Gloss disks.

They also do a DVD version so when we send out our disks the surface is identical.

I've been using ink jet printable Blu Rays for several years....cost about $1 per disk off
Amazon. Not sure about the glossy part, but using my old Epson 340 on the discs
makes them look pretty nice.

If you've never printed a premium glossy disc, the results would probably surprise you.

Falcon made glossy watershield BD-R like those TY/DVD glossy disc. The printout is excellent. I have them for sell. If interested, PM me for the link. :)

I recently had the experience of running around my area frantically, near closing time on a Friday afternoon, looking for writable BluRay disks. Office supplies stores, department stores, electronics stores, computer stores. No one had stocked them in a long time, and bear in mind that I live in a major city. Best I got was a shop assistant saying that the only place he'd seen them was on eBay (which was where I was already sourcing them).

If the world would just move already towards delivery by USB and online download only, I'd be a lot happier, people would actually watch my work in HD, and I think my clients would be happier, because I could drop the prices. I find the whole process of producing disks quite time-consuming and fiddly, and I usually don't even make motion menus or anything fancy.

(One pet peeve: videographers who advertise on their websites about how they've got amazing equipment and shoot in amazing high definition, and then have delivery by DVD only in their packages.)

I hear you, Adrian, agreed.

Most of my wedding clients actually *do* ask for blu-ray -- and I give *every* wedding client a blu-ray regardless (with DVD as backup for those few in our area who don't do blu-ray). Most non-wedding stuff is for HD web.

My interest in this thread only stems from the question of *glossy*/printable BR discs. In terms of printable blu-rays, I'm on it. And on it big-time! (while BR lasts!)

Update on Pro River and dual-layer Blu-Rays -- apparently, they do sell them, though they're not listed at the website.
