New monitor advice

Hi all, my monitor gave up the ghost after seven years last night so I've been looking for something new but thought I'd come straight here for advice.
I'm looking at 24" for screen size so any thoughts will be most welcome.

I've been looking at this

I use Mac Pros but have always bought Dell Ultrasharp monitors as I think they offer superb value, performance, connectivity, 3 year guarantee and above all, a non-glossy screen (Apple's horrendously expensive monitors are more like mirrors...). I'm still using a pair of Dell 2408WFPs on my 2009 Mac Pro and recently bought a pair of Dell U2713H monitors for my new Mac Pro (next size up in the premium range from the one you linked I think).

I could not be happier...Sure, if I was doing really critical broadcast work I'd need something better & much more expensive - but for what I do then Dell monitors are an excellent choice (they were just over £500 each at the time I bought them).

Others, no doubt, will have other suggestions!

I agree with Andy, I have used UltraSharp monitors for many years. I had a 24" and now have a 30". I researched each time and always found the Dell Ultrasharp offer best quality for the money. My monitor cost about $1200 and I have never regretted the purchase. There are better monitors but the equivalent quality and size cost a lot more.

Thoughts on Apple's new 5K iMac though?

I honestly think that screams value for money when someone next upgrades their system as a whole.

If you're considering doing that, then I'd consider the 27" from Apple - looks incredible!

Just throwing something into the mix!

Hi Chris

If you are still using Vegas then a dual screen for me works really well .. I have just a 23" LG for my main screen and then a 19" LG on the right just for preview. I couldn't see any point going any bigger on the preview screen as it supports 1920 anyway and provides a nice video preview and without preview windows in Vegas 23" is more than enough for the NLE. With mouse on the right and Shuttle pro on the left it's a great layout and fits on the desk too. On a standard depth desk I would feel that a 30" screen would be a bit heavy on the yes as your view distance is way too close and you would get eye strain...but that's just my opinion of course.

Chris
