Live Streaming

Hi All - I've just turned down a small booking (half day) for an event that requires live streaming. I don't have the knowledge or equipment to take this on but for the future it's something I might invest in.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what's the basic setup for live streaming an event?

Re: Live Streaming

I had looked into this 4 or 5 years ago for weddings. At the time, the best solution I could find was hooking up my Canon HV40 via firewire to my Dell laptop and streaming the Ceremony using Live Stream.

I tried it like one time, but the problem is with the on-site wireless network. Will it be fast enough to handle the transfer?

The actual Live Stream website worked pretty well and you could record your feed and it would play continuously if I recall correctly.

In the end, it wasn't worth the headache or hassle. Especially now where you can upload complete wedding videos of almost any length to Vimeo.

I have a friend who about a Tricaster and it supposedly does live streaming as well. But that's big $$$.

The new jvc gy-ls300 can stream wireless to a variety of streaming services (like UStream and Youtube) and at the same time record in HD, not sure if there are more, maybe cheaper camera's that have this option?

We picked up a little device that connects to the camera. You log it into the wifi, and it automatically streams your feed to uStream. I think it ran us $200, maybe $300 at most.

In fact, we have two, and would sell one, if you're interested.
