Magic Lantern?

Hello!

So I recently turned in my Canon XH-A1's for a Canon 6D/7D DSLR set-up. I had been completely overwhelmed by switching to DSLR's, but so far I am loving it, and it isn't quite as difficult as I had envisioned.

I just installed Magic Lantern on my 6D to start. I have been watching some YouTube tutorials about it, and still feel a bit confused about the features. What are some of the features of ML you love and recommend doing with DSLR wedding videos? Do you shoot in RAW, and if so, what settings do you like best and what do you do post-processing? I have been using Sony Vegas for editing only, but am open to new things. I see awesome videos made with 6D's and ML but I don't quite understand how it is being achieved.

Re: Magic Lantern?

I don't do RAW, because of the work flow, though it or dual ISO are great for establishing/detail shots, when you don't need the audio.

*audio meter on screen is huge.
*zebras or other focusing help
*built in intervalometer can be useful for timelapses
*digital zoom peaking while recording is great to double check your focus (half press shutter, see a little box pop up with 10x digital zoom)
* changing the frames per second in video, which can let you do long exposure video.

Re: Magic Lantern?

When I have used it, I used it mainly for the continuous recording and the aspect ratio framing. :)

Tried RAW on my 7D, but it just wasn't working well at the time.

Awww, continuous recording... I can't believe I forgot the number one reason to get Magic Lantern (with audio meters being a close 2nd).
